Dr. Nicholas Hackett is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery.
Dr. Hackett grew up in Franklin, TN, and attended Vanderbilt University as an undergraduate where he graduated summa cum laude. During this time, he made several medical outreach trips to Guatemala to work at a hospital. It was there that he decided that he wanted to be a surgeon so that he could help the sick and less fortunate.
He attended medical school and ophthalmology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. During residency, he received achievement awards for his pursuit of additional training in refractive surgery and exceptional performance on the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) national exam. He also served as chief resident. Before joining Loden Vision Centers, he practiced at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute as a cataract surgeon and comprehensive ophthalmologist.
He has authored over ten peer-reviewed articles as well as a textbook chapter on cataract surgery. He incorporates the latest advancements in the treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and refractive surgery (i.e. LASIK, PRK) into his practice. Dr. Hackett is involved on the national level in reducing healthcare waste and costs as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Surgical Pharmaceutical Waste Subcommittee. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is also an active member of the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology, serving as chairman of the group’s inaugural physician meeting.
